Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Voodry


Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Voodry homesteaded a short distance from Farnam in 1885, and were among the earliest settlers here, helping build many of the worthy enterprises of theis community. They moved to North Platte about five years later where they lived for some years, later going to Maywood where Mr. Voodry conducted a general store until his death in 1917. Mrs. Voodry then disposed of her interests there and went to Plattsmouth where she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Troop, until her death Jan. 12, 1934.
Mr. and Mrs. Voodry raised a nephew, George, who went to work on the railroad at North Platte. Later while working with a southern railroad company he lost his life, as a result of an explosion.

Mary Troop Farnam
Homesteader and
Beloved Teacher


Miss Mary Troop came from Plattsmouth, Nebr. in the early ‘80's and filed on a homestead north of Farnam. She went through the hardships of homesteading the same as the others did. Later she sold her claim and taught school south of Brady, then teaching in the Farnam school. She bought a lot and built a house in Farnam, which is now Mrs. Minnie Rowland's home. Miss Troop was a great help and a willing worker in everything. All these years she has been a faithful member of the Methodist church and of the W. C. T. U. of Farnam and is also a member of the Rebekah lodge. She moved back to Plattsmouth, then lived in Beatrice 12 years and is now living in Lincoln.
