Farnam Legion Post Receives War Trophy

The Farnam American Legion Post No. 288 was awarded its war trophy Monday, when they received a 250 millimetre German Minenwerfer. The Minenwerfer is a small trench gun built to throw mines. These guns weigh all the way from 500 pounds up, this one weighing about 2100 pounds. They combine both the properties of a high-angled and flat trajectoried fire and were designed especially to accompany infantry in rapid advance, for use in destroying machine gun nests or strong holds. It is mounted on wheels and is provided with oil-filled recoil cylinders.

It has been proposed that it be mounted on a concrete base and placed in the center of main street where the big flag pole formerly stood. This seems to be an ideal place for it so why not have the base erected at once and dedicate it on Armistice Day?

The Farnam Echo (51):1, Thursday, 29 October 1925
