Viola Elizabeth (Barnhart) Carmichael

Funeral services had not been completed Tuesday for Mrs. Viola Elizabeth Carmichael, a resident of the Scottsbluff area for thirty-six years, who died Monday night, January 5, 1942, at the home of a son, Joe Carmichael, three and one half miles southwest of Scottsbluff.

Born July 2, 1871 at Slippery Rock, Pa. Viola Elizabeth Barnhart moved with her parents to near Farnam, Nebr., in 1885, where her parents homesteaded.

On May 24, 1888, she was united in marriage with H. H. Carmichael at Stockville, Nebr., where the couple made their home, until moving to this vicinity thirty-six years ago. To their marriage were born three daughters and six sons, two of whom, Chester and Evelyn died in infancy. The father and husband, H. H. Carmichael died here on Dec. 17, 1937.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Minerva Jennings, Burton, Wash., and Mrs. Ruth Wade, Bolivar, Missouri; five sons, George, Springfield, Missouri, Charles, Shellbyville, Ind., Richard, San Jose, Calif., and Joe and Frank of Scottsbluff; two brothers, Harvey Barnhart, Slippery Rock, Pa., Wesley Barnhart, Whittier, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Howard Gardner, Farnam, Nebr. Sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Services and burial was held at Scottsbluff with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff County, Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
