Obituary Collection
Edwin Duane Tines

Edwin Duane Tines 78, of Nampa passed away on Friday April 15, 2011 due to congestive heart failure. Ed was born on May 25th, 1932 in Farnam, Nebraska to Edwin C. and Velma Tines.

From an early age, Ed was raised by his beloved Grandparents, Ira and Lucy Stapp. His Grandparents were employed as sharecroppers, so Ed spent his childhood years moving to various areas around the Northwest. Ed graduated from New Plymouth High School in 1951, and was hired out as a fireman with Union Pacific Railroad in 1952.

He married "his gem", Dorothy Jewell on September 12, 1954, and started their new life in Nampa. In March of 1955, Ed was drafted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country as an engineer, stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Upon successful completion of his military service obligation, Ed and his family moved back to Nampa, and he returned to work with the Union Pacific Railroad. Ed worked for Union Pacific for 42 years in various positions, but was most proud of achieving Engineer in August of 1964. He loved his work and the many friendships that were made over the years. His favorite run was the trip from Nampa to McCall. A special memory for Ed was being the engineer in the movie, Bronco Billy.

In his spare time Ed enjoyed camping, fishing, 4 wheel riding, working in his shop, and planting his garden. In retirement Ed & Dorothy spent 15 summers and falls on the Oregon Coast where they would volunteer as Camp Hosts at Beachside and Washburn State Parks. They enjoyed giving tours of Haceta Head Lighthouse and helping at the parks. Many friendships and special memories were made with people who visited and worked at the parks.

Ed is preceded in death by his father Edwin Clarence Tines, his mother Velma Faris, grandparents Ira and Lucy Stapp. Ed is survived by his soul mate Dorothy of 58 years. Children Dorene (Richard) Sheldon of Warrenton, Oregon, Randy Tines of Nampa, Kerri (Derrin) Kennel of Nampa. Sister Pamela (Rod) Hopper, Grandchildren Richie (Emily) Sheldon, Shane (Jenny) Sheldon, Aaron Tines, Dustyn Kennel, Kylee Kennel, and one Great Grandchild Harper Claire Sheldon.

A special thanks would like to be given to the caring staff at St. Lukes Meridian Hospital, especially Dr. James W. Smith, Dr. Michael Dee, Dr. Steven Williams.

The family has placed their trust in Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel for the final arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Lukes Heart Foundation at 190 East Bannock Street, Boise, Idaho 83712. A memorial service will be held at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave S., Nampa, Id. on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 2:00p.m.
