Charity D. (Sanderson) Owen

Charity D. Sanderson was born August 17, 1861 near Chariton, Iowa.

At an early age she moved with her parents to near Centennial School, York County, Nebraska where she grew to womanhood. She was married to John W. Owen, February 22nd, 1880 near McCool Junction where they continued to live many years. Seven children were born to them, three of whom predeceased her. In 1907, they moved to Lincoln county which continued to be their home. Mrs. Owen went to California March 23rd of this year for the sake of her health and passed peacefully away at San Diego April 21, 1923 at the age of 61 years, 8 months, and 4 days. The deceased joined the Congregational church at Farnam, Nebraska and continued a loyal and faithful member and active worker in the Ladies Aid Society. She was also actively interested in the Temperance movement and everything that was for the betterment of the community. She joined the Royal Neighbor’s Lodge 25 years ago, and retained her membership in the Evergreen Camp at McCool.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Owen of Farnam, three sons, Wm. A. Owen of Friend, Nebr.; Frank H. Owen of Orafino, Nebr., and Charles W. Owen of Omaha, Nebr., one daughter Mrs. Coleen O. Britt of Deshler, Nebr. One brother Frank P. Sanderson of San Diego, California and six grandchildren besides many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held from the home of E. E. Lincoln and at the Methodist church, McCool, Sunday afternoon in charge of the Rev. G. R. McKeith of Friend, former pastor of the family, assisted by the Rev. R. N. Ball, Methodist pastor. A congregation that taxed the capacity of the building was assembled which included a large group of the Evergreen Camp of Royal Neighbors. Very appropriate hymns were sung. The floral offerings were very beautiful. The family token of love being a harp with a broken string. There was also an offering from the Farnam Congregational church. The body was laid to rest in the McCool Cemetery the services being conducted by the Royal Neighbors with the Rev. G. R. McKeith for the closing prayer.
