Gustaf Frederick Nordin

Gustaf Frederick Nordin, son of Charles and Caroline Nordin, was born in Hoopton, Illinois, August 3, 1875; and passed away February 27, 1958, at the Slack Nuring Home, Gothenburg, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-two years, five months, and fourteen days.

When a small child, he came with his parents and two brothers to Nebraska, where his father homesteaded. A few years later his mother passed away leaving his father and the boys alone. They endured many hardships as early pioneers.

In 1902, he was united in marriage to Maggie Westfall and to this union wasborn one son Myrle, who passed away in May of 1941. In 1903, they took into their home as their own, a niece, Ruby Johnson.

Mr. Nordin had been in failing health for the past several years. After the death of his brother Henry, in September of 1955, he made his home with his foster daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz, until about four months ago when he was taken to the Slack Nursing home in Gothenburg, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, and his two brothers.

He leaves to mourn his passing his foster daughter, Mrs. Fred Schultz of Farnam, grandson[s] Richard Schultz of Kansas City [and Jack Schultz of Farnam], Missouri, one niece, Eythel Locke of Chicago, Illinois, one nephew, Carl Nordin of Albuquerque, New Mexico and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Berryman Mortuary, Cozad, Neberaska, Wednesday, March 5, 1958 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. B. H. Hart officiated. Interment in the Fairview Cemetery, Cozad, Nebraska. Pallbearers were Fred Gengenbach, Ardell Meyer, Walter Holbein, Gilbert Keisel, Ernest Ubele, and Wesley Velte.
