Stephen Paul Hengen

Stephen Paul Hengen, 74, of North Platte died Feb. 10, 2006, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Crete to Stephen John and Una Emma Kennedy Hengen on Nov. 23, 1931. He is a Wallace High School graduate. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict for two years.

On June 23, 1956, he married Leslie Patricia "Pat" Fletcher in Wallace. To this union two girls and four boys were born. Paul attended Chadron State College where he received his teaching certificate. He taught math and coached at Hershey, Farnam, Madrid, Springview and Brady, worked at Gibson's True Value where he was sporting goods manager, owned and managed Paul's Rod and Reel, and worked at Platte Valley and Suburban Irrigation. Paul enjoyed spend-ing time with his family and his church. He loved the outdoors, riding horses, hunting, fishing and sports. Paul was a friend to all mankind, always willing to help when needed.

He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Vet-erans, a trustee and council member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Hershey, a school board member at Rosedale School and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of North Platte; daughters, Diana (Steve) Berg of Aurora and Donna (Terry) Douglass of Grand Island; sons, Daniel (Lucie) Hengen of Hershey, David (Kristi) Hengen of North Platte, Dennis (Rose) Hengen of Bird City, Kansas and Douglas (Monica) Hen-gen of North Platte; sisters, Lois (Harold) Edwards of Ogallala, Doris Stevens of Potter and Janel Sparks of Lincoln; and a brother, Roger Hengen of North Platte; grandchildren, Cicely and Bradley Hengen, Eric, Ryan and Amie Nardini, Sara (Brandon) Altig, Stephanie and Sally Hengen, Patty, Annie, Alex, Sam and Max Hengen, John Paul, Josephine, Jacinta, Joy and Justin Berg, Brooks, Broc and Bo Douglass and Bradan, Leah and Calisa Hengen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Janet Hengen.

Christian Wake Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Rademaker as celebrant. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors by the Hershey Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
