Sarah "Alverda" Hamm, sister of Wray Lydic of Gothenburg and a former resident of the Farnam area, died June 1, 2001, in a Norfolk, Va., hospital. She was 90.

She was born Feb. 28, 1911, to Robert and Lula Aylsworth Lydic. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk.

Mrs. Hamm is survived by her husband of 60 years, Will I. Hamm; a daughter, Kay Sarah Herrold of Garysburg, N.C.; a son, David L. Hamm of Boones Mill, Va.; a brother, Wray (Theresa) Lydic of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were June 11, 2001, in Virginia with burial in North Carolina.

The Cremation Society of Virginia was in charge.
