Samuel Brown

Services for Samuel Brown, 79 was conducted at the Evangelical Church in Cambridge, Thursday, February 17, 1944 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. C.B. Thomas conducting the service. Miss Floris Thomas and Miss Claris Culvert sang a duet accompanied by Mrs. C.B. Thomas. Mrs. Paul Poush sang a solo. Pallbearers were: Ome Shoemaker, Lloyd Richardson, Kenneth Newcomb, Ralph Wiedeman, Harry Thorndike and Harley Bellamy.

The Masons held a short service at the church following the service. He was laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery.

Samuel Brown son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown was born at Silver Lake, Indiana, May 18, 1864 and passed away at the hospital in Cambridge, Nebr., Feb. 15th, 1944 at the age of 79 years, 8 months, 27 days. He grew to manhood at Silver Lake, Indiana and came west to Nebraska in the year of 1886. It was here he met Miss Arminta Jane Kilburn and they were married on May 3rd, 1891. Three children were born to this union. In the spring of 1892 he moved on a farm in Frontier County, near Orafino, where he resided until he moved to Cambridge in 1898 where he has resided ever since.

When he moved to Cambridge he became a contractor and has built many of the fine buildings of the town. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife and three children; Nova E. Brown of Whittier, Calif., Dr. Dewey F. Brown of Redwood City, Calif., and J. Dean Brown of Downey, Calif., and six grand children. Five Brothers, Richard Brown of Farnam, Nebr., Elsworth Brown of Nampa, Idaho, Curtis Brown of Gering, Nebr., Charlie Brown of Silver Lake, Ind., and Irwin Brown of Modest, Calif., and a host of friends that have learned to know him.

He was a loving and kind husband and father always interested in the welfare of others. He took several of his nieces and gave them a home as long as they needed one. Always insisting that his family attend church services and attended very regular himself. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
