Ruth H. Barrett

Ruth H. Barrett, 90, longtime resident of Eustis, died July 20, 1999, at the Gothenburg Hospital-Long Term.

She was born Nov. 3, 1908, at rural Eustis to Arthur and Ethel Ruby Heater. She attended rural school through eighth grade and graduated as valedictorian from Eustis High School in 1926. She received her teacher’s certificate from Kearney State Teacher’s College. She taught rural school south and southwest of Eustis for four years.

On May 7, 1931, she married H. Truman Barrett at McCook. They made their home on a farm-ranch site south of Eustis until 1977, when they moved to Eustis.

Mrs. Barrett was an active, faithful member of the Nazarene Church at Farnam. She was a 50-year member of the Central Community and Eustis Extension Club.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Miller of Cambridge, Rosalie (Wayne) Joy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gwen (Loren) Carlisle of Colon, Mich.; a son, Bruce (Loretta) of Gothenburg; four sisters, Mae Bailey of Fort Collins, Colo., Lola Vroman of Corona Del Mar, Calif., Nona (Albert) Smith of Boca Raton, Fla., and Elaine (Jack) Daniels of Santa Ana, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant great-granddaughter, Brittany Lee Burton; three sisters, Helen Stombaugh, Clarice Hoover and Venita Heater; and two brothers, George and Ross.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery.
