WAYNE RANK, DIED SATURDAY
BURIAL IN FARNAM CEMETERY

Wayne Rank, son of David Rank, of this place, who was wounded on Sept. 15th, died at the Oxford hospital last Saturday, after lingering on the point of death for over a week.

Mr. Rank who with his wife and child were spending the night at the home of his father-in-law, Lester Smith, seven miles south of Arapahoe, when they heard a truck drive into the place about three o’clock, and got up to investigate. Mr. Smith fired a shot into the air to frighten the intruders, who they saw leaving the garage with a can of gasoline, they did not return the fire, and the two men decided to head them off at the truck, and took a round about way. Before Mr. Rank came to the truck, he came into full view in the moonlight and one of the thieves shot, wounding Rank. They then hurried to the truck and drove away.

Mr. Rank was hurried to the Oxford hospital where it was found that the bullet had entered the abdomen, passing through the body and lodging in the pelvis bone.

Complications set in which caused his death last Saturday, after he had lived over a week.

Charges against Walter Brown and Leonard Fields have been changed by Beaver City authorities from shooting with intent to kill to first degree murder as a result of his death.

An autopsy revealed a .22-caliber bullet had been fired, and it with a .22 caliber rifle found near the home of Brown at Arapahoe are being sent to ballistics experts.

Preliminary hearing for the men was set for Thursday, held at Beaver City.

Obituary

Wayne Dennis Rank, son of David W. Rank, and Celia Uhlig Rank, was born July 17, 1906, in Eustis, Frontier county, Nebraska.

He received a gun shot wound a few days ago and was rushed to the Oxford, Nebr. General Hospital, where he received the best of care. In spite of all that kind hands and surgical skill could do he passed away Saturday evening, September 24, 1932.

His mother and two sisters preceded him in death some years ago. He was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Uhlig of Eustis, Nebr.

He was a graduate of Eustis high school.

He leaves to mourn his departure: His father, David Rank, a wife and infant daughter, seven uncles and four aunts.

May the passing and this untimely death of this young man speak the message that God would have us to hear. May we look to the Lord, and find in Him the comfort and the grace we so much need. For he is an all sufficient Saviour. He came to seek and to save that which was lost. May we look to Him and trust Him as our Saviour and Lord. May God comfort and strengthen the hearts of the bereaved at this hour.

Funeral services were held at Arapahoe, and the body brought to Farnam Tuesday, where burial was made, following a short service conducted by Rev. C. R. Tanner.
