Myrtle Hesse

Myrtle Rice Hesse, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clebert Rice, was born March 26, 1882, at Olmstead, Ohio, and departed this life February 21, 1968, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Mrs. Rice came to Nebraska with her parents in 1890 to live on a "tree claim" near Farnam. She was married to Carl J. Velte on January l, 1902. To this union were born six children: Florence Spearman of Lincoln, Harold C. Velte, (deceased); Gladys Gaibler of Eustis; Helen Farmer of Terril, Iowa; Anna Prestegard of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and Gaylord Velte of Grant. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.

Carl J. Velte died on December 18, 1925. She was married to Chris H. Hesse on September 12, 1938. Chris Hesse died on February 4, 1958.

Mrs. Hesse was a member of the Farnam Methodist Church for the last forty years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge, the W.S.C.S. the North Union Aid and the Community Workers.

Funeral services were held at the Farnam Methodist Church, Saturday, February 24, 1968, with Clergyman Rev. James Staley officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Anton Kotschwar, Mrs. Deloras Nickerson and Mrs. Raymond Smith. Pallbearers were Noble Bellamy, Charles Davis, Henry Wiggers, Russell Wilcox, Raymond Smith and Dale Montgomery.
