Aaron James 'Jim' Speck

Aaron James "Jim" Speck, 82, of Gothenburg died Aug. 6, 1995, at Gothenburg.

He was born Sept. 30, 1912, at Lexington to John Burnard and Mary Agnes Courtright Speck. He married Verna Lucille Mowrey on Feb. 2, 1933, at North Platte. He farmed in the Moorfield-Farnam area for 16 years. He moved to Gothenburg in 1949. He worked for the city of Gothenburg as water street foreman until his retirement in 1978. He was active in the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief for several years.

Mr. Speck was a member of the American Lutheran Church and served on the church council.

Survivors include his wife of Gothenburg; a daughter, Carolyn Waller of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, Kendall (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rod (Marcia) of Gothenburg; a sister, Ada Speck of North Platte; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Memorials may be directed to the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Karen Kaye and Intern Darin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, which is in charge of arrangements. The family will greet friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.
