Obituary Collection
Mary Luella (Lydic) Rice

Mary Luella, daughter of R. L. and Anna Lydic was born in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, Dec. 6, 1868 and passed away at her home south of Farnam, Nebr. on Jan. 22, 1932. Aged 63 years, 1 month and 16 days.

In March of 1889 she came with her parents to Frontier County, Nebr. She was united in marriage to Jacob B. Rice on June 6, 1889. To this union were born six children, one of whom passed away in infancy. The surviving children are Dean, Nellie and Elizabeth (Klooz) of Farnam, Laura (Day) of Orafino, Nebr. and Jay L. of Wichita, Kansas, all of whom were at her bedside as were her nine grandchildren.

She is also survived by her husband by whose side she walked for nearly 43 years. She leaves two sisters, Bessie Stevenson of Farnam and Harriet Ross of Los Angeles, Calif., and three brothers, Robert J. Lydic of Farnam, James K. Lydic of Fordland, Missouri and Edward W. Lydic of Glendale, Arizona.

Early in life she accepted Christ as her personal savior and united with the Wesleyan Methodist Church. At the time she came to Nebraska there was no church of that denomination here, but she was always active in Christian work where ever opportunity was offered and became a charter member of the Lone Star Church of the Nazarene and her interest in and her love for the church seemed to increase as the years went by. She was always in attendance whenever able until bodily affliction kept her home. Her constant desire and burden was the salvation of souls.

She was a great sufferer for a number of years, but was always patient and steadfast through it all. The last few days were not like a deathbed, but times of great blessing and rejoicing as she anticipated her entrance into the Heavenly portals.

She knew death was coming and made all arrangements, even to the smallest details and set the day and hour of her funeral.

"O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?" Internment was made in the Farnam Cemetery, January 24, 1932.
