Sylvester Hazen Passed
Away After Long Illness

Sylvester Farris Hazen was born in Napoleon, Rippley county, In., July 17, 1850 and departed from this life February 10, 1934. Aged 83 years, 6 months and 23 days.

He moved with his parents to Champaign county, Illinois in his early boyhood. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jane Brand on February 1, 1872. To this union were born five children. His wife and three children have preceded him in death, Johnnie, age one year, nine months and two little girls died in infancy. He moved with his family to this locality and homesteaded nine miles south of Farnam in 1884, and has made his home here since.

He leaves to mourn his departure two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Rosenfelt and Mrs. James Hazen, both of Farnam, seven grandchildren, and one brother Benjamin Hazen of Seymore, Illinois.

He was baptized and became a member of the Methodist church when a young man. Later he united with the United Brethern church where he remained a member to his death.

Mr. Hazen has made many friends who with the relatives will greatly miss him.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock Rev. Tanner in charge. Interment in Farnam cemetery beside his wife.
