Obituary Collection
Martin V. Babcock

Martin V. Babcock was born in Milton Junction, Wisconsin, April 26, 1868, and departed this life, March 8, 1940, at the age of seventy-one years, 10 months and 12 days.

He came with his parents to Richardson County, Nebraska, at the age of 7 years, and to this part of the state in 1891, or forty-nine years ago this spring.

At an early age he became a member of the Seventh-Day Baptist church.

On January 22, 1901, he was united in marriage to Ethel Whitney. To this union six children were born. His wife passed away twenty-two years ago. Two brothers, Walter and Frank, and two sisters, Sarah and Martha, have preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his death, his family: Dora Walther of Garland, Wyo.; Mattie Baxter of Farnam; Violette Pinkerton of Powell, Wyo.; John Babcock of Farnam; Luella Baxter of Moorefield, and Marvin Babcock of Farnam; two sisters, Mary L. of Topeka, and Ella R. of Hastings; seven grandchildren, eight nephews, and one niece, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

And so, beside the Silent Sea
I wait the muffled oar;
No harm from Him can come to me
On ocean or on shore.
I know not where His islands lift
Their fronded palms in air,
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond His love and care.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Samuel Mitchell. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Dan McNickle and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Pollard. Pallbearers were J. R. Edson, Frank Owen, Bern Lindvall, Ed. Brock, Claude Clement and Roy Patterson.
